iPhone Camera

The iPhone Fashion Shoot - Lee Morris Shoots With The 3GS from FStoppers on Vimeo.

High? Rez Photos on nothing more than an iPhone Camera (with a dig at Olympus). Proving that it isn't the camera you have. It more about the hair, makeup, talent, lights, studio space... and oh, talent. Mostly the talent.

Bryce Wymer: Poster Process

You see the poster at the top of the blog, now see the poster on a wall in NYC. And in process in Bryce's sketchbook. And read about his process:

I designed this poster for a lecture on the Art of Process that Rama and I will be presenting for the Art Directors Club of Denver on February 18th. I wanted photography to portray each of us as if we were two hours shy of a serious ass kicking. I figured that if we were going to be discussing the creative process that it would only be appropriate to exemplify us as slightly defeated, while simultaneously posed in a stance of empowerment with clearly absent facial features.

I have included some of the process work involved in creating the design:

1. The gathered reference of the design. I looked at a lot of Diane Arbus.
2. Above is the sketchbook page that I did all handwritten type within.

The presentation is February 18th at 7:30 pm at the RMCAD Auditorium. Should be mad fun!

Big Ups To Murphy Paul for the help on the photo shoot.

How cool is that guy to not only agree to come and speak with colleague Rama Allen, but to fully embrace the art and process of getting the word out?! And now, if you had a chance to sponsor some print for this, are you kicking yourself? Next time, eh what?

Ray Rushing has an eye for the sublime and a talent for producing lush imagery.
In his own words:
"Photography is my profession and my passion. I can’t imagine having a better job. It truly is a blessing to do something you love everyday and actually get paid for it. Pretty cool. I love meeting new people and hearing their stories."

Check out his work and give him a call.

Tools for freelancers: What does it cost you to hang a shingle?

Before you can price a product or service, you need to know your costs to provide it. This CDB calculator is one tool to help you get a handle on those costs. But it's only as accurate as your inputs, which can be hard to estimate. Err on the high side, since unexpected things can catch up with you, and as you bill more, your expenses almost surely will increase. As high as totals from this calculator may look, experience will probably prove them low.

The calculator was designed by The National Press Photographer's Association, but a little creative thinking will make it a useful exercise for any freelance professional.

The New World Order

It has been a long time since we all decided to change the world and always have a camera on us. So it was only a matter of time before the iPhone became the most popular camera used for flickr. Chase was right. Pixels be damned. Via Pocket-Lint.com.

Photography as Film

Red One, Canon 5D Mk II, and Panasonic Lumix GH1 Footage Comparison from marty meyer on Vimeo.

Check out the test between Red One, Canon 5D Mark II, and Panasonic Lumix GH1 with a range of lenses for film quality. These are beautiful and one should see the next milestone for film making. the lines are blurring between film and photography, and we all should be excited (or I'll be excited on my own). Vimeo has the HD version worth seeing, via Gizmodo.

Nikon Coolpix

Why is it that brands immediately jump to cheese when the product benefits are revolutionary? Cool product that with product usage that just feels lame, especially the "on the shirt guy."

Fallen Pricesses

Really love this idea from photographer Dina Goldstein.

I began to imagine Disney's perfect Princesses juxtaposed with real issues that were affecting women around me, such as illness, addiction and self-image issues.
Check out more shots at her site.

Light Calligraphy

Two of the toughest skills to master have been elegantly blended with amazing results. The eye popping light painting/calligraphy you see here is the work of photographer/typographer Julien Breton aka Kaalam light caligrapher. As a fan of both, these are amazing.

Getty Images Partner with Flickr

The screen shot you see above is from Getty Images. Their new enterprise centers around some of the amazing photography you can find in Flickr and, in a sense, funding it. They will be handpicking (really, how do you do that digitally?) thousands of photos to put in their Flickr collective. Photographers now have a new way to be corporately discovered and rewarded.

Locals You Don't Know: Alison Vagnini Photography

Check out the work of local Alison Vagnini Photography. She has a mix of people, fashion, commercial and place including Southeast Asia. What strikes me the most about her work is the seemingly effortless ability to capture the real and the intimate, but that is me just waxing randomly, instead give her a look. You'll most likely, well–like.

Locals You Don't Know: Celin Serbo

Based in Boulder, Celin had his start a mountain guide. Now he spends his professional life not bringing people to the top of the mountains, apparently he only captures it. Check his lifestyle, sport and travel portfolios here.
