London 2012

The logo wasn't a total success, but these might be. Time will see if they can remain contemporary for two years.

"Our brief was to create mascots that would excite and inspire young people and encourage them to get involved in sport. We wanted everyone, especially young people, to be able to take part, so we asked ourselves, ‘Why have one mascot when you can have millions?'" says Grant Hunter of Iris."

Never Reach

Clever bit of insight and wonderful illustration to boot. I might add that there are places your tongue should never reach, but that, alas, is another post.

Good GIF Action

Sure they are not moving up there, but they are here. Go now.

Conrad Gessner's Animals

The New york Times has a wonderful slideshow on Conrad's Gessner's woodcut animals. Some fictitious, all well crafted. Worth heading over there and reading the captions.

Your code isn't this good

This isn't traditional, it is coded flash. Now, ask yourself "How?", and then say out loud, "Wow!". And go experiment just like Erik Natzke. Beautiful work that is truly pushing what is possible.

Beautiful Art

Mentos, yes that Mentos, has really stepped up their look and and advertising. Really love that all the shadows are off one light source. Someone really worked this art well.

Coke Zero?

This feels right in line for the ad campaign for Coke, but wait, this is for Coke Zero and although the ad is out of Ogilvy, Buenos Aires, Argentina, maybe the Coke Guys (in those ads Duh, duh dudu da duh) are right. Coke Zero is stealing from Coke. Or maybe its just a fun idea with some wicked animation.

Eboy for Der Spiegel

Outside of the local guys, Eboy is one of my personal favorite illustrators. His work from over the pond has been increasingly popular and more increasingly ripped off. This however is his and is, as always, entirely fun. Look out for the naked pixel dudes as you peruse the editorial illustration about the internet and its need for new rules.

Get the Work You Want

On my drive home tonight, I saw a handwritten message taped to a stop sign. It read: Garage Sale. Buy our stuff so we can eat.

Damn.

The world seems out of whack these days, and many creatives feel stuck in neutral.

ADCD takes this to heart as we believe all creatives deserve a creative life. With that, a good number of our board members and close friends to our club congregated to pump out this whimsical little read.

Get the Work You Want is a friendly reminder of the little touches we need to progress. Network. Stay organized. Propsect. Fine advice from some of Denver’s finest talent: copywriter Jordan Sher, illustrators Shaw Nielsen, Jarrod Wheaton, Ali Colby, Steve Schader, Sarah Bergman, Liz Richard, and Paul Vismara.

Download it here, please.

Stella Artois

When you are going to do retro, do it right, that would include bringing Robert McGinnis out of retirement to bring his iconic style to life. Mother did just that and the results are stunning (admittedly more than the average consumer will get) and well worth the effort. Even the pencil is amazing. McGinnis still has it.

Men Posters

Whimsical, beautiful. I have a soft spot for really great designers that get away from the computer, or at the very least, appear to do so. But to do so and have such a wonderfully honest approach to manly insight raises the bar. See more of the work from Omar Tehawkho on the Behance Network.

Smart political poster will always have room. Great concept and timing not to mention design and illustration. Grey, Milan, Italy. Illustrator Paolo Rui.

More Local Talent in CA (online)

Just came across this from Denver agency Cultivator. Eye-catching, make-you-look-twice kind of stuff. Ads help kick off high-tech camping company Brunton's new campaign, "The Future of Camping." Cool.

Shaw Nielsen is in CA

Shaw Nielsen, a Denver illustrator, has made it into the pages of the newest Communication Arts and we say congrats. His style is mirthful and fun, quirky and thoughtful. If you don't know Shaw, check him out here. Love seeing local talent getting national exposure.

Sour

I've seen something like this before, or at least the idea, but the illustration style is what really helps this come alive. Ogilvy & Mather, Mumbai, India
