Pencil Lead

Dalton Ghetti carves really small things out of the graphite in pencils. Takes him ears, but the work is pretty amazing.

Dynamic

Love this art. Highly technical, timely, and has a sense of humor, not to mention scale. The new work of artist Chen Wenling.

Get the Work You Want

On my drive home tonight, I saw a handwritten message taped to a stop sign. It read: Garage Sale. Buy our stuff so we can eat.

Damn.

The world seems out of whack these days, and many creatives feel stuck in neutral.

ADCD takes this to heart as we believe all creatives deserve a creative life. With that, a good number of our board members and close friends to our club congregated to pump out this whimsical little read.

Get the Work You Want is a friendly reminder of the little touches we need to progress. Network. Stay organized. Propsect. Fine advice from some of Denver’s finest talent: copywriter Jordan Sher, illustrators Shaw Nielsen, Jarrod Wheaton, Ali Colby, Steve Schader, Sarah Bergman, Liz Richard, and Paul Vismara.

Download it here, please.

Tough Table

DoubleButter Say What? from DoubleButter on Vimeo.

Doublebutter's write up is best:
Prisencolinensinainciusol, the name of the track playing over this stop-motion video, is, in an incredible coincidence, the cockney term for Armadillo Product Testing. Or at least that's what Darnell told us and if you've met him you'd admit that does seem like the sort of thing he'd know. Fittingly, the Horsehead Crating crew (DoubleButter's in-house strangeness group) orchestrated some product tests on our Armadillo coffee table to accompany the song. The table shown is a prototype square version (the casters are just there to help it roll for the towing segments), and it's the same table in every scene. We performed the tests (with the help of a few friends) while the Tillmans worked the cameras (Clovis, Darnell, and, in her DB debut with the HH crew, Hollah Jean). The results: if the table can handle a Molotov cocktail we're sure it can handle your wussy mojito.

It's Denver, cool and they have a web site. What more do you want?

Shaw Nielsen is in CA

Shaw Nielsen, a Denver illustrator, has made it into the pages of the newest Communication Arts and we say congrats. His style is mirthful and fun, quirky and thoughtful. If you don't know Shaw, check him out here. Love seeing local talent getting national exposure.

b-flat

Experimentation on YouTube. Darren Solomon from Science for Girls is looking for you to play anything as long as it is in bflat, you can go to his site, inbflat.com and play any of the uploaded videos in any order and creat your own artistic piece. Really wild stuff. Here are the guidlines:
-Sing or play an instrument, in Bb major. Simple, floating textures work best, with no tempo or groove. Leave lots of silence between phrases.
-Record in a quiet environment, with as little background noise as possible.
-Wait about 5-10 seconds to start playing.
-Total length should be between 1-2 minutes.
-Thick chords or low instruments don't work very well.
-Record at a low volume to match the other videos.
-You can listen to this mix on headphones while you record.
-After you upload to YouTube, play your video along with the other videos on this page to make sure the volume matches.

Look for this Near You

It is only a matter of time before somebody thinks of something adver-useful for this, could it be you?
Artist Stuart Semple released these smiley-shaped, pink-tinted clouds to celebrate London industry. Comprised of helium, soap and vegetable dye, a total of 2057 clouds were launched at a rate of one every seven seconds.

Love Type

Found this over at CreativePro.org and had to share:

The 1927 edition of Studio Handbook by Samuel Welo is 233 pages of beautiful type and timeless design advice. Only this book comes with a twist – every page was hand-lettered by Welo.

Little is know of Welo, but he does have a flair for the hand drawn type. Rarely do I regret the added tool of the computer, but hand drawn type is rare if not impossible to find anymore. That is a skill the computer has killed, and we will forever be poorer for it. There is nothing like hand drawn type, done well of coarse. Head on over to the link for more. Lots more. Maybe we can just wait for the power to fail and head back to the good old days, then again, there would be a lot less to sell and I'll need to find a new skill.

Dollar goes where no man has gone before

Nice work with money, since this may be the only way it can go far.

Sagmeister Makes Penny Art, Cops Make It Disappear

...Or something like that. I don't quite understand the whole story told here on droog. But it is one of the coolest public / temporary art pieces I've ever seen. See the whole flickr set ( where I got the pics) here.

Oh yeah, the piece says, "Obsessions make my life worse and my work better.” I was just contemplating this the other day... Hmmm, is that sign to make some changes?

This is How the Nords do it

We're so used to seeing graffiti in the cities that this puts a much more art lens on it. More so due to the placement of the graffiti, but the images are also very powerful.
