All That Glitters

These are really wonderful. Breakthrough communication. Rethink, Vancouver, Canada (Former ADCD Awardshow Judge was the Writer)

Golden Billboard: A billboard wrapped in 22-karat gold has been unveiled by Rethink to promote the new “Treasure!” summer exhibit at the Vancouver’s science-based museum. The 18.5-square metre billboard–which took three weeks and $11,000 to produce–is the first of its kind in the world, said Rethink spokeswoman Jennifer Newstead. The golden behemoth was created with the help of Brian Dedora, a master gilder in Vancouver. Located near the busy Granville Island market, the billboard was covered with gold pounded so thinly that only 56 grams of the precious metal was needed to cover the entire surface. The three-dimensional letters that spell out the headline “2 oz. of Gold Can Cover A Billboard” are covered with gold as well.

Diamond Billboard: A billboardwith glued 9,000 dazzling glass “diamonds” to a billboard to promote Science World’s Treasure exhibit, and to dramatize this fact: compared to most other gems, diamonds aren’t all that rare.
