Scam Alert: Designers & Developers
Our firm was recently asked to design & develop a website for an NGO working in Africa for the relief of Malaria. They agreed to our terms: 50% advance, 50% prior to launch. They sent website content (text & photos) and payment in full including hosting/maintenance for a year, though it was not specified in our contract for payment in full in advance.
I was out of town but my admin deposited the advance (an overnight money order which in 4-days bounced). The client called the day the check arrived but I was unavailable. I'm assuming this was a typical Nigerian ploy to write-back a check for the 50% of funds that were mistakenly paid. No work had begun on the project and to date I have not heard back from them.
In the event you're next, here's their information. They found us through our website's form mail: Raymond Winston Grey: Email: leroy3k@yahoo.com Phone: 002348063810464

Bigfoot @ Hurley
Cool show, Big foots Ominous Compositions from the Magic Mountains
Bay Area-based, nature-loving artist BIGFOOT has been a major influence in the skateboard industry for more than a decade. Despite his reclusive nature, Bigfoot has a very active presence in both the sports and art world, designing skateboard graphics and footwear. He has exhibited in galleries in the US and Japan, and in 2004 unveiled his first vinyl figure through Strangeco. His eponymous character and love of heavy metal – especially the masked rock group KISS – play a major role in his studio work, as well as his highly recognized street art. Pics via notcot

Interactive Magazine covers
Good to see innovations in print, especially magazines. These two new covers from Wallpaper* and Huck add a little interactivity to the mix. Check the Huck cover video for a creative brief, asking you the reader to destroy and remake the cover, then submit it to them for possible inclusion in a future issue.

Colette Baumann Krol, ADCD Board Member, Passed Away
Colette Baumann Krol: October 22, 1971 - August 29, 2010
Colette Baumann Krol passed away on August 29, 2010. Colette was born October 22, 1971 and grew up in Boulder. She attended Columbine Elementary, Centennial Jr. High and Boulder High. In her early years she was an accomplished pianist, a competitive gymnast and a member of the Boulder High Pom squad. Following graduation from Metro State, she lived in Denver and later moved to Portland, OR. She used her creative talents as a graphic designer, an event planner and a project manager.
Surviving are her husband, Michael, their children Sophia, age 5 and August, age 3, her parents Jerry and Sandra Baumann of Durango, CO, brothers Greg of Urbana, IL, and Paul (Jennifer Sundt) of Boulder, CO, many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Peter, and nephew, Brady.
Colette’s philosophy was, “I’m not dying of cancer. I’m living with cancer.” Her favorite quote during her fight with breast cancer was, “Don’t wait for the storms to pass; learn how to dance in the rain.”
Colette’s oncologist wrote the following, which speaks for those who had the honor of knowing and loving her: "Colette was one of the most beautiful, inspiring, positive women I have known in my life. Her grace and dignity throughout her fight with breast cancer was extraordinary. She truly was loved by all of the staff from the front office to the chemo nurses and of course very much loved by me. I think of her often and consider her an angel with me as I work to fight breast cancer in other women. I will miss her."
A celebration of her life will be held in Portland in October.
Donations may be made to her children’s college funds: Sophia and August Krol; Account #: 0QF-730297; Payable to: National Financial Services; 110 West A Street, Suite 1800, San Diego, CA 92101.

Fourmile Fire - How you can help
As of noon today, The Fourmile Canyon Fire near Boulder County has burned more than 7,000 acres and 92 structures, 54 of which are homes. 8 people have been reported missing.
While thousands of residents have been evacuated, 600+ fire fighters continue to work around the clock to try curtail the progression of the fire.
Evacuees are still waiting on the OK from city officials to return to the area. Due to falling trees and powerlines down, the area is deemed unsafe it could be days before any word.
During this time, the Red Cross has set up overnight evacuation centers and are accepting donations for Colorado’s Disaster Relief Fund
The Longmont Humane Society is also accepting donations for animals that have been displaced.

Number 1 Viral Campaign of All Time
According to AdAge, the #1 viral campaign of all time isn't Evian's roller-skating babies or Old Spice, but the antics of Blendtec! Seems their Will It Blend campaign has been around for 4 years and has garnered over 134.2 million views. That's a lot of brand awareness via web-based adverts alone. Here's a fun one that will make you cringe, and want to watch @ the same time.
